Comédie fantastique de Chris McKay avec Nicholas Hoult, Awkwafina, Nicolas Cage, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Ben Schwarz

Lassé d'être le serviteur du Comte Dracula depuis près de 80 ans, Renfield veut s'émanciper, mais le Comte ne va pas le laisser faire, il trouve de l'aide avec une policière qui veut éliminer des bandits et ses collègues corrompus.
Projet relativement attendu car Nicolas Cage en Dracula, le film s'est largement planté aux US à sa sortie et on comprend pourquoi.
Oscillant constamment entre le sérieux et la comédie avec des scènes de bastons très gores, on ne sait pas vraiment sur quel pied prendre ce drôle de film avec un Nicolas Cage sous des tonnes de maquillage qui s'en sort honnêtement.
Il ne faut pas oublier non plus les sympathies de Nicholas Hoult et Awkwafina dans un environnement de policiers corrompus et d'une bande de malfrats que n'aurait pas renié un certain John Wick.
Bref, malgré une ouverture qui rend hommage au Dracula de Tod Browning et quelques bonnes idées, le résultat s'avère relativement décevant et on comprend son flop aux US.
