Sidney Prescott a maintenant une famille et une fille ado étant établie dans une petite ville. Mais les crimes d'un nouveau Ghostface recommence visant cette fois-ci sa famille.
7ème film de la série Scream et troisième opus depuis son redémarrage et son acquisition par Paramount, ce nouvel épisode arrive après une production chaotique connue, une réécriture complète et le rappel du créateur de la série derrière la caméra Kevin Williamson et c'est moins mauvais que dit partout.
A son actif, c'est plutôt bien réalisé, il y'a pas mal de suspense et ambiance sombre bien rendue, c'est sans temps mort, l'optique de la nouvelle famille de l'héroine apporte un plus. Neve Campbell est toujours en forme et la nouvelle venue Isabel May (vue dans la série 1883) s'en sort bien, Courteney Cox increvable est là pour toucher son chèque (Campbell aussi mais bon) quoiqu'on dise. C'est moins "meta" et apparemment moins gore que précédemment, il y'a plusieurs références aux événements de New-York , plutôt bien vues.
Cependant, cela reste très, très prévisible, on sait d'avance qui va se faire tuer, l'intro avec le couple pas du tout malin est quand même superflue. Et surtout, surtout, l'identité et la motivation des tueurs relèvent du gros n'importe quoi et semblent sortir de nulle part d'un coin du cerveau de l'imagination des scénaristes.
Bref, sans être la purge annoncée souvent ce 7ème volet se laisse voir et reste honnête dans sa démarche, mais l'impression qu'on arrive quand même au bout du concept, il faudrait que ça s'arrête et malheureusement ce n'est pas prêt d'être le cas car le 8ème opus est validé.
