Les Pirates du Metro
Thriller, suspense de Joseph Sargent avec Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, Martin Balsam, Hector Elizondo, Earl Hindman, Dick O'Neill

Un groupe d'homme prennent une rame de métro (à New York) en otage, ils demandent un Million de dollars sinon ils tueront les otages, le chef de la police du Metro prend l'affaire en main.
Petit film culte chez certains, Les Pirates du métro est aussi une des rares réalisations pour le cinéma de Joseph Sargent qui a surtout tourné pour la télévision. Pour le grand écran, on lui doit un sympathique Cerveau d'acier où un moyen quatrième volet des Dents de la mer.
Si la partie thriller, prise d'otage, négociations et course poursuite finale spectaculaire est extrêmement bien menée et tient en haleine, on peut rester cependant dubitatif par le ton du film.
Un ton étonnamment assez léger, qui ne se prend pas au sérieux même humoristique par moment et surtout jalonné de dialogues vulgaires (même en VF) et souvent sexistes, voire racistes ce qui reflète bien la société de l'époque, le maire de NY est présenté comme un imbécile (ayant la grippe) qui ne pense qu'à sa réélection.
Côté acteur, Walter Matthau s'en sort bien dans un registre un peu à contre emploi, Robert Shaw fait son méchant habituel, les noms de code des bandits ont fortement inspiré Quentin Tarantino nous dit-on.
Si donc, Les Pirates du métro reste un bon thriller, on peut être étonné par les défauts cités plus haut qui n'en font certainement pas la pleine réussite annoncée.
Remakes :
Outre un remake télé, on connaît le film bien sûr par le biais de L'attaque du métro 123 de Tony Scott avec Denzel Washington sorti en 2009.
