Damian Hale, un milliardaire mourrant accepte par le biais d'une nouvelle technologie et d'une mystérieuse organisation de transférer son cerveau dans un corps qu'il croit fabriquer, mais ce corps appartenait à une autre personne.
Grand retour du sympathique Tarsem Singh, cinéaste visuel dont on avait plus de nouvelles depuis sa version plutôt fréquentable de Blanche Neige.
Singh s'attaque ici au thriller de science fiction sur un sujet qui n'est pas sans rappeller le méconnu et traumatisant Opération Diabolique de John Frankenheimer avec Rock Hudson.
Le résultat est plutôt réussit, navigant constamment entre thriller et une dernière partie où l'on plonge dans la science fiction pure, porté par un excellent Ryan Reynolds qui confirme tout le bien que l'on pense de lui. On pourra pardonner au cinéaste, quelques maladresses, des scènes d'action un peu décevantes, mais l'ensemble est suffisamment prenant pour tenir en haleine. A noter, on ne voit Ben Kingsley que dans le premier quart d'heure du film..
Avec Renaissances, Tarsem Singh prouve qu'il n'a pas perdu la main, sans être inédit, le film est suffisamment distrayant pour passer un bon moment sans oublier son excellent acteur principal.
