Le destin et l'ascension d'un revendeur d'arme installé aux Etats Unis.
Film culte pour beaucoup, dernier grand rôle pour Nicolas Cage pour les autres, Lord of War a marqué les années 2000 en étant aussi la seule incursion hors Science Fiction du réalisateur Andrew Niccol.
Si la démonstration fait froid dans le dos quand on sait que tout ce qui est montré dans le film se passe dans la réalité, si aucun pays n'est épargné par le réalisateur, à tel point que l'on se demande comment il a pût passer une certaine censure, j'avoue avoir moyennement accroché à ce film que je trouve finalement assez froid et un brin longuet cependant.
Il y a certes de bonnes choses, le jeu de Nicolas Cage mais aussi celui d'Ethan Hawke en agent cherchant à tout prix à capturer ce dernier, mais un rythme particulier et surtout une voix off omniprésente et qui devient vite envahissante font que j'ai accroché moyennement à cette démonstration sans doute nécessaire, mais qui laisse le spectateur assez hermétique à son sujet.
Bref, Lord of War malgré une bonne réalisation et un bon jeu d'acteur n'est pas vraiment accessible à tout le monde, son style assez froid rend l'ensemble assez hermétique et il faut vraiment adhérer au tout pour pleinement l'apprécier.
A noter : Le film est célèbre par sa scène d'ouverture qui voit la fabrication et le cheminement d'une balle jusqu'à son "destinataire" un enfant africain...
