Ethan Hunt, un agent secret voit son équipe éliminée au cours d'une mission à Prague, accusé de trahison il va tout faire pour prouver son innocence.
Première adaptation de la fameuse série de Bruce Geller créee en 1966 avec Peter Graves dans le rôle de Jim Phelps à partir de la seconde saison, c'est aussi la deuxième adaptation d'une série télé pour De Palma après Les incorruptibles en 1987.
Je dois dire que j'ai complètement redécouvert le film récemment en blu ray qui m'avait un peu déçu à sa sortie, le métrage vieillit très bien. Si l'intro reprend le thème et le style de la série, ensuite ça part plus sur le personnage de Tom Cruise qui veut prouver son innocence.
Le film regorge de scènes désormais cultes, le cambriolage de la CIA avec Hunt suspendu à un filin, la poursuite dans le tunnel sous la Manche. Le scénario est assez malin et roublard également avec une révélation assez inattendue pour celui qui n'a jamais vu le film. Bref, De Palma s'en sort une fois de plus très bien avec un très bon Tom Cruise (quoiqu'on pense du personnage, c'est un sacré acteur) et l'unique (à ce jour) expérience américaine pour Emmanuelle Béart.
Mission : Impossible est un film qui vieillit bien, qui contient son lot de scènes spectaculaires, mais aussi un scénario plutôt malin, ce n'est pas toutefois le meilleur du genre, mais il mérite d'être redécouvert.
