La forteresse noire
Fantastique de Michael Mann avec Jurgen Prochnow, Gabriel Byrne, Scott Glenn, Alberta Watson, Robert Prosky, Ian McKellen

Pendant la Seconde Guerre, des nazis investissent une forteresse isolée dans les Carpathes près d'un petit village. Très vite, des soldats meurent mystérieusement, la gestapo s'en mêle réveillant une créature maléfique.
Seconde réalisation de Michael Mann et unique incursion dans le fantastique pour le réalisateur, La forteresse noire a une petite réputation culte chez certains de part sa rareté, son échec en salles et son tournage chaotique.
Un tournage qui dura quasiment un an dû aux mauvaises conditions météo, de la méticulosité de Mann et du décès du superviseur des effets spéciaux.
Le résultat donne un film bancal partant d'une bonne idée, le mal par le mal, mais qui demeure très curieux. On ne sait pas par exemple ce qu'est le personnage de Scott Glenn, un ange ? Un alien ? Certaines scènes sont réussies, de même une ambiance fantastique et la créature principale, mais tout cela donne quelque chose d'inachevé (Mann posséderait une version de 3h30), de très spécial et inégal.
Bref, malgré l'occasion de voir quelques acteurs à leurs débuts, Gabriel Byrne, Ian McKellen, La forteresse noire dégage une impression bizarre, n'est pas inintéressant, mais demeure à la longue assez particulier si bien que l'on décroche assez, dommage donc pour cet exercice de style loin d'être convaincant.
A noter, diffusion récente sur Paramount Channel, à vérifier si le film y est toujours diffusé.
